Help! Since downloading and installing SP3 on my WinXP machine I've lost my
address bar in the Task Bar. Does anyone know how to get it back? Thanks.

It is part of the SP3 change over, it is gone but somebody should come up
with a reg hack for it...

Thanks for the answer. I sure miss that address bar. Hope someone can find
some way to replace it.

Mine had disappeared too, but it's there, to the right. You have to drag it in place.

You can temporarily get it back. Drag the desktop icon over to the
right, until it forms a new bar at the right side of the screen. On that
bar you can activate the address bar, then drag it into the taskbar. On
the next reboot it'll be gone again however. Not sure if a simple
reghack can fix it either, as surely someone would have come up with one
by now.

Re: How to recover the address bar in taskbar in Windows XP SP3?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We wrote a minimalist shell toolbar which 'hosts' the pre-sp3 address
bar and allows it to be added to the taskbar. No reimplementation, the
exact same behavior as before SP3.

http://www.niversoft.com/downloads/xp-sp3-addressbar.zip

Currently there's no installer, please follow simple instructions in
install.txt

Software provided AS IS. Has been verified for viruses, but you should
always double-verify anything you download anyway.

The address bar always was a stupid idea and a complete waste of space.
It was dropped because us IT professionals and power users found it to be
irritating as well as totally unnecessary.

You can set one up if you wish.
You can shove a huge, glowing and throbbing vibrator up your arse too, if
you wish.

That works indeed, thanks. However there's a catch. The darn goto button
comes with it, and IE7 has no more option to hide it. How can I get rid
of it ? It takes up too much space, but I don't know where in the
registry I can flip the switch...

Well, you might want to have a look at the registry. At
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
look for the entry ShowGoButton and see if it's set to no. That's all I
can think of.
