My Windows XP SP3 works, but some programs that require a multimedia
driver and/or a USB driver do not work. When I opened Systems from the
Control Panel I found that the drivers for both were missing. I know I
had them when I originally installed XP SP2 Home because the programs
that required them ran many times.
I am certain that in the past I have been able to insert my XP disc
and by hitting space bar could get the computer to start from the XP
disk. Okay I still can.
I am certain that when the screen came up asking whether I wanted to
"Install" or "Repair" by hitting the "R" key it would reinstall any
missing windows files and repair those that have been changed since
original installation. WITHOUT DESTROYING THE PROGRAMS AND DATA ON MY
DISK. That I now can not do.
When asked if it want to install or repair and hit "R", I got a
screen asking for the administrators password. I had none so no repair
was made.
I restarted Windows normally, opened Admistrator on the Control Panel,
it showed no Administrator password, so I gave it one.
I repeated above and when Repair asked for the Administrator password
I typed in the one I had just created. When I did this I got a screen
showing C:\ windows, but no repair was made.
How can I reinsatall all the original drivers without reinstalling
windows and losing everything.
